Place details
Aladzha Monastery is the most famous medieval cave monastery on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.
It was constructed during the XIII- XIV centuries and inhabited by hermit monks. However, thanks to the archeologists who find many items such as ceramics, graffiti and so on, it is an evidence that the place was inhabited ten centuries earlier - on the Christian Age.
In the monastery, the guests can see the caves on two level (near 20 cells) and distinguish a dining premise, a kitchen, a church, and a crypt... The place is surprising.
Otherwise, the nature surrounding the Monastery is beautiful and quiet, and the place is unique.
Aladzha Monastery has been recognized as one of the most interesting destinations on the Black Sea Coast and it is included in most of the world travel guides.
