Visit Lerins Islands is in top ten to do in Cannnes.

Located opposite the Bay of Cannes, the Lérins Islands are two islands - St. Marguerite Island and St. Honorat Island.

Honorat was a stake man, Marguerite would have been his sister.

St. Marguerite Island

The island Sainte Marguerite is much larger than the island of St Honorat.

Here there is a large forest with Aleppo pines and eucalyptus trees. There are also about fifteen wild beaches.

It's great for a picnic and a stroll, and during the summer season come to the beach.

In addition, there is on Sainte Marguerite Island, a castle. An old state prison, and not just any one.

Here was imprisoned the Iron Mask for 11 years.

The fort and the prison can be visited.

St Honorat Island

St Honorat Island is different from its "big sister".

Here, an abbey was founded by a hermit monk - Honorat. Honorat later became bishop of Arles.

The abbey can be visited.

To get there there are boats that leave regularly from the port of Cannes. The crossing takes about 15 minutes.
